Lanette

Lanette "Mickey" Simonds, age 87, passed away peacefully at Hospice House in Baraboo on August 29, 2012. Lanette was born on March 14, 1925 to parents Arthur and Elsa (Hanusa) Meyer of Loganville. Lanette was united in marriage to Stewart Simonds on June 2, 1945. Before moving to the farm on Johnson Road, they farmed in Greenfield Township on land that is now part of the Fairfield Marsh, about 5 miles east of Baraboo on Highway33. She spoke of the trials of working land that flooded often but was pleased that it had been recently returned to the marsh it was meant to be. She appreciated the natural beauty of Sauk County and made sure her family did too. Friends and family always enjoyed her phenomenal cooking. Her talents were also served up to the inmates and staff of the Sauk County Jail for 27 years until her retirement in 1993. With a set budget for each prisoner meal, she procured provisions and hired three capable cooks to help her prepare wholesome meals. She didn't judge, but instead showed respect for all human beings even if they had made a bad decision that brought them to "the third floor". She is survived by her children; Scott (Patsy) Simonds and Pam (Steve) Andersen, granddaughter; Sarah Simonds, grandson; Peter (Laura "Lilly") Simonds, great-grandchildren; Chase, Bryce, Calib and Bayli all of Baraboo, niece; Nona Meyer of Des Moines, Iowa, nephew; Neil (Yasuko) Meyer of Toyohashi, Japan and many more cherished family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; Arthur and Elsa Meyer, husband; Stewart and brother; LaVern Meyer. To respect her wishes there will be no formal funeral service. However, a memorial gathering will be held Sunday, September 23rd. As details become available they will be posted on http://memorial.yourtribute.com/LanetteSimonds/ . You are encouraged to visit the site and share stories, photos, even recipes that reflect how she may have touched your life. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family to help install a bench in Lanette's honor at Fairfield Marsh. The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Clare Hospital ICU and St. Clare Hospice House. "The compassionate way with which they cared for mom provided comfort for all of us." Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.
