Donald E. Ploenske, Baraboo

Donald E. “Don” Ploenske, age 80 of Baraboo passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016 at St. Clare Hospital with his son and daughter-in-law by his side. Donald, son of Emil and Dorothy (Lehman) Ploenske was born April 18, 1936.
In 1974 Don started Town and Country Carpet Cleaning and operated it until his retirement in 2004 but continued to work alongside his son. He was a lifetime member of the Baraboo Elk’s Club and a current member of the local VFW. For 19 years Don was involved with the Circus Parade and Circus Train. That along with farming, Don enjoyed most because he shared this with his son.
Survivors include his son, Chad (Terri) Ploenske of Lodi; and grandchildren, Mitchel Ploenske currently serving his country in the United States Marine Corps and Mallory Ploenske of Baraboo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.
The family would like to extend special thank you to nurses Mary, Deanna, Jenn and Katie for taking exceptional care of Don during his final days.

Marjorie R. Pickarts-Alvin-Radel, Baraboo

Marjorie Rosemary Pickarts-Alvin-Radel, age 78 of Baraboo died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016 at St. Clare Meadows Care Center. Marjorie, daughter of Joseph and Lucille (Knipschield) Pickarts was born Feb. 19, 1938 in Baraboo. Marjorie attended St. Aloysius School in Sauk City; she worked as a homemaker her entire life, caring for her family. On Jan. 13, 1993 she was united in marriage to Donald D. Radel; he preceded her in death on Nov. 7, 2013. In her free time she enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include her children, Joseph (Kathy) Alvin of Rock Springs, Jeffrey Alvin, Sr. of Hillpoint, Lisa (Steve) Weldy of Wisconsin Dells, Lori Alvin of Baraboo; 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; siblings, Donald Pickarts, Rodney (Karen) Pickarts, Shirley (Paul) Breunig and Melvin Pickarts as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Arnold Pickarts; daughter, Linda Alvin; and sisters-in-law, Ruth Pickarts and Irene Radel.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016 at Redlin Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Kathleen S. Cseri, Reedsburg

Kathleen “Kathy” S. Cseri, age 79 died on Friday, Dec. 16, 2016 at home surrounded by her family. Kathleen, daughter of Herbert and Bernice (Hoffmann) Schill was born Sept. 21, 1937. On Dec. 7, 1957 she was united in marriage to Daniel A. Cseri in South Milwaukee. Kathy and Danny owned and operated Fox Hill Campground for 29 years. She was an avid quilter and enjoyed keeping up on politics.
She is survived by her loving husband, Danny; daughters, Cynthia Cseri and Christina (Edward) Catterson; grandchildren, John, James and Jacob; siblings, Suzanne McCormack of Texas, and Michael (Jo) Schill of South Milwaukee; as well as her brother-in-law, Ken Keller of Colorado; nephews, Nick (Julie) Johnson of Illinois and their son, Niko, Nathan Keller of Colorado and niece, Dana (Ryan Gacnik) Keller of Colorado.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Ronnie, Nancy, Chris and James.
A Celebration of Life will be held in May of 2017. The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Stephan V. “Steve” Andersen, Baraboo

Stephan V. “Steve” Andersen, age 64 of Baraboo, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2016 at home due to complications from treatment for leukemia.

Steve, son of Walter and Dorothea Andersen, was born on October 13, 1952 in Illinois. He was a graduate of West High School, Madison Wisconsin.  On May 7, 1983 he was united in marriage to Pam Simonds.  Steve spent his working life in television and video production; working at WISC Channel 3 and WMTV Channel 15 in Madison, Rustad-Wickem Video, Grassland Media and Baraboo Broadcasting.  He was also the owner of Editorium, a video postproduction business in Madison.  Steve was an avid sports fan, especially Wisconsin Badger football and basketball.  He enjoyed walks at Devils Lake, listening to music, jewelry making and watching old movies.  He was kind, thoughtful and had a wonderful sense of humor.  He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Walter G. and Dorothea (Lange) Andersen and sister; Jacqualine (husband Bruce) Ehlke.  He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Pam Andersen of Baraboo; sister, Shirley (husband Roger) Peterson of Fitchburg; sister Caryl (husband Ronald) Carr of Michigan; brother-in-law Scott (wife Patsy) Simonds of Baraboo; nephew John Ehlke of Baraboo; nephew Peter Simonds of Colorado; niece Sarah Simonds of Utah and beloved pets Spencer and Bucky. 

There will be no formal funeral service.  A scattering of ashes will take place at a later date.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family or in Steve’s name to the Sauk County Humane Society.

Betty Ann Shull, age 88 of Fargo passed away peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2016 at Eventide Nursing Home in Fargo. Betty was born Oct. 17, 1928 in Edmore, North Dakota to Emory and Rachel (Richardson) Botsford. Her parents moved to Sarles, North Dakota when she was 1 year old. She attended school to 8th grade at Sarles, she was a Girl Scout, confirmed and baptized Presbyterian.

She moved to Grand Forks in June 1969 and went to work at K-Mart then transferred to K-Mart in Fargo in 1979 to be near her daughter Carole and family. She retired from K-Mart in 1994; then worked part time at Dollar Stores in Fargo after 30 years with K-Mart.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, William; sisters, Beverly and Doreen; granddaughter, Rachel Beier; and grandson, Chad Clark.

Betty is survived her daughter, Carole (Bill) Steinhorst of Baraboo, Wisc., Agnes (John) Beier of West Fargo, Sandra (Echo) Jensen of Kingman, Arizona; son, Alvin (Yolanda) Clark of Colorado Springs; sisters, Agnes Schultheis of Bremerton, Washington; brother, Gary Botsford of Apache Junction, Arizona as well as 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandsons as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

At her request, there will be no services. In lieu of sending flowers, the family suggests that you open a bottle of fine wine (it actually can be cheap wine, she wouldn’t complain) and toast her wonderful life.

Gene Christian, Baraboo

Gene “Geno” Christian, age 69 of Baraboo passed away on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016. Gene, son of Oliver and Ione (Creasey) Christian was born July 24, 1947. 

Geno had a compassion for all living things and will be admired for his kind heart. Geno loved bird watching, fishing, baseball, ice skating, playing pool and dancing. 

Survivors include his children, Nicki (Joshua) Sennett, Nasreen Ameri, Vincent Christian; grandchildren, Paula, Ashley, Rebecca, Jacob, Arkin; great-granddaughter, Mila; siblings, Glen, Henry, Barbara Pletzer, Marvin, Richard, Vera Gerl; beloved nephew, Andy Medina as well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Lewis, Helen Schroeder, Victor, Cornelia Lowe, Jack, Bonnie Medina, and Herbert.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016 at New Life Outreach, 827 W. Pine St., Baraboo, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Leonard Wells officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 9, 2016 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Redlin Funeral Home and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
