Susan Grassl, Baraboo

Susan ‘Sue’ M. Grassl, age 63, of Baraboo entered eternal life on Saturday, May 25, 2013  after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Sue was born on Feb 10,1950, the daughter of Irvin and Lorraine(Dillingham) Jeske.

After graduation from Pittsville High School, she married Raymond Grassl; they later divorced. She was most recently employed at Menard’s in Baraboo. Sue was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was an active volunteer at Circus World, and at the St. Joseph prayer shawl group. She was an avid Packer fan, proud Marine Mom, and enjoyed making afghans donated to charities.

Sue is survived by her children; Ray Grassl, Jr. of Vesper, WI, George Grassl of Sun Prairie, WI, Mary Grassl of St. Louis, MO, and Michael (Lisa) Grassl of 29 Palms, CA; grandchildren Marc, Michael, and Julia of St. Louis, MO, and Joseph, Brooke and baby expected in 29 Palms, CA; siblings, Barbara (James) Weis of Stratford, WI, Michael (Karen) Jeske of Auburndale, WI, Steven (Donna) Jeske of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Marge (Don) Smith of Nekoosa, WI, Ed (Kim) Jeske of Pewaukee, WI, Helen Jeske of Nekoosa, WI, Chris (Ken) Winegarden of Friendship, WI. Sue is further survived by a cousin, Lou (Cindy) Simonds of Plover, WI; special friends, Mary and Tom; as well as numerous nieces; nephews; and many lifelong friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Baraboo with Father Jay Poster officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2013 from 9:30 a.m. until time of service, at the church. Burial to follow service in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Baraboo.

The family would like to extend a special ‘Thank you’ to Father Jay, Dr. Huen, and the staff at St. Clare Clinic and Hospice.

Beverly Braun, Baraboo

Beverly ‘Bev’ J. Braun, age 75, of Baraboo passed away on Sunday. May 26, 2013 at the St. Clare Meadows Care Center in Baraboo. She was born on June 4, 1937 to Alfred and Leona (Hill) Bethke in Sauk City.

Bev worked for Isenberg’s Hardware Store for 30 plus years, until she retired. She was a long time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Baraboo. Bev was an avid square dancer, she loved to travel and help people. She was a leader for 4-H, Boy Scouts, and Cub Scouts. She especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren.

Bev is survived by her two sons, Alan (Cathy) Braun of Onalaska and Steve (Tammy) Braun of Loganville; grandchildren, Adam, Amanda, Jedediah (Andrea), Abraham, Danielle, and Hannah Braun. She is further survived by two sisters, Janeen (William) Grimm of Portage and Rose (Tony) Vrtis of Ixonia; one brother, Truman (Pam) Felland, Jr. of North Freedom; and a sister-in-law, Kay Felland of Elkhorn; as well as many nieces; nephews; other relatives; and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Becky; grandson, Elijah Gene Braun; brother, James Felland, Sr.; and sister, Dinah Armstrong.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Karen Hofstad officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service, at the church. Burial will follow in the Prairie du Sac Cemetery. The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or the 4-H club.

Audrey Mae Bauer, Merrimac

Audrey Mae Bauer, age 87, of Merrimac passed away peacefully with her children by her side on Friday, May 17, 2013 at Our House Assisted Living. Audrey, daughter of Charles and Meta (Huebbe) Gustin was born on Dec. 8, 1925, Baraboo.

She was united in marriage to Emil “Bennie” Bauer, August 21, 1946 in Baraboo.

In her teenage years Audrey worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Baraboo.  Audrey also worked at the hardware store, A & W, and The Shack in Merrimac.  Audrey lovingly cared for her family and willingly served the community as a beautiful soloist, crafter and baker.

Her hobbies include, bowling, crafts, cooking for the church, supporting family activities with her children and grandchildren and she especially loved dancing with her beloved husband.  Audrey loyally attended church atImmanuelLutheranChurchand served on the Women of the Church and as assistant treasurer for many years.   Audrey had a beautiful voice and sang at many weddings, funerals and family functions.

She was preceded in death by parents, husband Bennie and brothers Charles, Roger and John Gustin.

Survivors include her  son, Aurey Ben of Baraboo; daughter Judy Mae (Blaine) Nowak of Milton; grandchildren, Sandy (Bauer) Coppola, Jennifer (Nowak) Fujii, Noah and Nick Schultz, Tia Mae Nowak; brother-in-law George (Dorothy) Bauer; sister-in-law, Marge Bauer as well as great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and numerous friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Merrimac with Pastor Mary Pharmer officiating. Burial will follow in Rock Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 24, 2013 at Redlin Funeral Home, 401 Madison Ave. from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or Alzheimer’s Association.

Gertrude L. Accola, Baraboo

Gertrude L. (Platt) Accola of Baraboo, passed on to her heavenly home on Friday, May 17, 2013 at St. Clare Meadows Care Center at the age of 87.

Gertrude was born on April 6, 1926 in the town of Baraboo to Erwin and Hilda (Harman) Platt.  She was united in marriage to Ivan Accola at the Evangelical United Brethren Church  in Baraboo on January 20, 1951. Gertrude had been employed by Badger Ordnance and Reinkings. After their marriage, they owned and operated Aire Vista Motel in Lake Delton for 14 years. Gert had been a member of GOFF (Girls of Forty-Four) and the VFW Auxiliary.  She enjoyed sewing, gardening and reading.

She is lovingly survived by her husband of 62 years, Ivan Accola of Baraboo; three children, Carol (Len) Wagner of Baraboo, Ken (Barb) Accola of DeForest, and Susie (Dwain) Robb of Murphy, Texas; nine grandchildren, Lori (Devin) Atkinson, Cristy (Marcus) Krueger, Tina (C. J.) Edwards, Andrew Accola, Shawn (Nicole) Robb, Kimberly (David) Chase, Noah Robb, Elijah (Kori) Robb, and Caleb Robb; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Agnes Ropers and Ida Mae Erickson; other relatives and friends.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents; a sister-in-law, Esther Griffin; and 5 brothers-in-law, Lester Marquardt, Leonard Ropers, Chet Schluter, Emil Erickson, and Art Griffin.

A Memorial Service will be held at 5 p.m. on Monday, May 20, 2013 at the Emanuel United Methodist Church in Baraboo with Pastor Blake Overlien officiating.  Visitation will be held at the church on Monday, from 3 p.m. until the time of services.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Emanuel United Methodist Church or St. Clare Meadows Care Center. The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Carl H. Zirzow, Baraboo

Carl H. Zirzow, age 70, of Fairfield Township, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. Carl was born on March 21, 1943 to Earl and Doris (Kollath) Zirzow in Waukesha.  The family moved to Baraboo when he was young and lived here most of his life.  He was united in marriage to Patricia Greenwood on December 2, 1961 in Baraboo.  He had been employed by Greenwood Forest Products for 39 years and did maintenance at the Sauk County Fairgrounds for many years.

Carl loved raising his family and always being there for everyone.  He thoroughly enjoyed taking his grandchildren fishing and hunting, and loved hobby farming.

Carl is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patricia A. Zirzow; his children, Brian and Rhonda (Quindt) Zirzow, Scott Zirzow; his grandchildren, Zachary and Jacob; his father, Earl Zirzow; four brothers, Walter and Mary, Richard and Karen, Roger and Bonnie, all of Baraboo, and David and Deb of Illinois; many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Zirzow and his daughter, Tracy.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 13, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Baraboo with Pastor Karen Hofstad officiating. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 12, 2013, at the Redlin Funeral Home, 401 Madison Avenue in Baraboo. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to “Save the Grandstand” at the Sauk County Fairgrounds.

Carl will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.  The family would like to thank Home Health United Hospice, Lori Spencer, Medical Associates and Dr. Damos for their care and support.
